RE: GFCI keeps tripping - You won't believe the cause

G'day Folks,
We get the odd cable and telephone outage in our area, and as the pole is in the rear of our yard get to watch what is going on, several times the repair PERSON (must be politically correct here) has found spider nests in the grey junction box on the lines. Seems like they swarm the same as garter snakes and bees, and will cut services. And as an aside, I HATE SPIDERS ...........

RE: Yukon info online, including a good Wildlife Viewing Guide

G'day Sue,
Good sites, thanks for passing them on, a lot of folks should get a lot of info from these. Seems like the price of fuel has not kept people home. Just returned from a whirlwind trip Courtenay-Portland-Rtn to pick up a TC with my son, I-5 N was loaded with MHs.

RE: Just to be sure --- Season Pass least expensive option?

Each person is required to have a pass............ C$67.70 X ? = ?......... May be cheaper for you to purchase a group pass if you are accompanied by the children. Also look at getting the pass that will allow admittance to the 27 National Parks & 78 Sites. For my wife and I, it is cheaper to get 2 senior Discovery than one family. Alan, 'apiece' means 'each'

RE: Warning Label on Honey Jar

I've heard of this for many years. I believe it is because some children 'MAY' get violently/deathly ill, their systems are not yet immune to the natural bacteria contained in the honey. Google "Honey/Sickness/Immune" see what you come up with.

RE: How Much Canadian $$$$ is needed?

To reinforce what I posted at 08:47. I just checked the BC Super Camping Guide book, third entry for Little Rock RV Park, CASH only, it then goes on Whiskey Creek Campground same thing. Duncan RV Park & Campground no CC's. Nanoose Creek CG no CC's. Gulf Islands National Park Reserve no CC's. These were on the first three pages of 49. You must have a good directory and choose your CG. ATM's are quite common in gas stations, you will no doubt get hit with a SC by your bank and also the ATM owner, I know for a fact that if I use the ATM in the Pay Less station here in Courtenay or the Gas & Go up in Cumberland, I am charged C$1.50 by the machine and C$1.50 by my bank, these are privately owned machines. Your best bet is to get your cash from a Chartered Bank, in any town you are passing through.

RE: How Much Canadian $$$$ is needed?

For one thing, don't assume that all places will take CC's or DC's. You will run into places that will only accept CASH....... Get a good directory like the AAA or similar check out your CG's you plan on staying at, most will list what they require for payment and the approximate cost...... Also allow approximately C$100.00 per day per person for incidentals, if you don't spend it all it is not like lettuce it will not go bad and you can use it on your way home......... And at the rate our dollar is going it will be worth more...... Have a good trip through BC.

RE: fresh meats & produce across the border

It will depend on the day and the agent you get when crossing, if he/she is having a bad day then you will have to dump them frozen or not, even some pet foods. Best bet or advice that I can see is eat it all the last night before crossing, don't press your luck, purchase fresh when you hit the first shopping centre over the border. This applies going both Nth or Sth into or out of Canada.

RE: Coffee percolators

Should have made excellent coffee, just cut down on the brew time until you reach the point YOU like. I use 10 cups water to 5 Tbsp coffee grounds, boil, cut heat back till slopping out the spout stops, brew until I think it smells good.............. And also always make it outside, sun, rain or snow, that way it wakes all the neiboughs up with the aroma............ And I love my coffee at 05:30 a.m.

Cover the chrome with a towel or tea towel, it is their reflection that they are after. You could also tape paper over the chrome and any mirror surface................

RE: Campground Closures In Wyoming and Colorado

We have a beetle also up here in BC that has killed off thousands of acres of timber............ They are now trying to salvage and use the wood for furniture. So far have not heard of any parks being closed. It's called the Northern Pine Beetle.......

RE: Crossing the border with food

G'mornin Derek,
MHO only, it might be best to just bring your staples, up to 14 days worth I think you are allowed for family consumption, no meat or fresh fruit & veggies (we don't want any of your diseases up here). You will be able to purchase all in Canada on your way (a lot come up from down south anyway, and our meat is far better tasting). A lot depends on the Agent you get when crossing the border, he/she could be a real jerk or just wave you through, and this works going in both directions of course!!!
